Brown Beret breaks down what’s going on at the so-called “border”
If you’re Indigenous, you’re not a “migrant”
The following words were stated by Rafael Avitia, who breaks through the media (and so-called“activist”) whiteout of the direct action by La Meza National de Brown Berets to protect lives in Eagle Pass, Texas.
If you want more context, I suggest getting acquainted with this powerful Chicano / Chicana organization and the people they defend.
This is a rush transcript. I have arranged the words as I have done because Brother Rafael Avitia spoke this as the poetic truth as it is, and then I found out he is a poet. If the brother who spoke or anyone representing La Meza Nacional de Brown Berets wishes to have corrections made to it, I will be sure to do so.
Aquí estamos,Brown Berets. And we’re standing here at the border in Eagle Pass. Everybody’s heard what’s going down across the country.
The hate this country is filled with, the attacks on our Raza the immigrants coming over to this land which was once theirs because we are Indigenous.
We’re Brown Berets and we’re down here to let people know that we stand with people, we will be here with the people that no hate is going to destroy our gente, no hate is going to destroy our spirit, and no law enforcement, no federal government, and no hate group is going to prevent us from coming down here and standing behind our people.
Today we spent the day with the families of Uvalde, and today we’ve also got San Antonio,Houston, California, and we’ve also got some other Brown Berets from all over the country. And we’re not here just by ourselve, we’re here with Uvalde, the families of Uvalde.
So just to let everybody know that we’re here to fight for the gente, and if there’s anything we should know is that this land is our land. That’s why we use the terms Chicano and Chicana. We are Indigenous, and what that means is you are Indigenous, you are native to this land.
We are not illegal aliens. There’s no way in hell we could ever be illegal aliens . That’s what Chicano and Chicana means, a child of this Earth. And that’s why they don’t want you to know the true identity of who we are.
We are Indigenous. We are not the illegal immigrant. They can have all the cops in the world, they can have all the politicians on their side, but they ain’t gonna kill our spirit.
We just came from giving a church protection. They called us, they were in need, so we provided protection to the church, and we continue to provide protection to our gente La Raza.
We are the Brown Berets and we continue to be here for our gente.
WHO ARE WE? (BROWN BERETS!)
WHO ARE WE? (BROWN BERETS!)
BROWN BERETS (ALL THE WAY!)
