For 85 years of this profound soul!
Memories of Marvin Gaye

Inside of me
Resonates “You’re All I Need to Get By”
A most early memory
Marvin’s song with his dear sister, Tammi
Can one song last a life time?
Yes, it can, brother!
I always want to live with the words
of timeless love
A foundation of your verse
for a dawn of meditations on “The Ecology”
You asked a question
We still demand answers
War, you said, is not one of them
On my every voyage uphill on New York Avenue
with my back towards the Potomac
Your face has long graced
my farewell wall from your home city
A foretelling of my return
As we all return to sources
of what must be known
of roots that strengthen through songs
that heal
that provoke thoughts
We heard it too
We are sensitive people
As long as memories not fail us
May your voice reverberate all over!
Beautiful tribute to a totally remarkable artist. He was a prince.
This is beautiful, Angel.
It reminds me a lot of the work of the late Michael Harper. He ran a seminar at my university with just 6 of us for 3 hours once a week in the evening back in 2002. It was a magical experience! Do you know his poetry? He draws on many jazz artists especially, both in subject and form/rhythm.
